Artea Association

Set up in 1977 when a group of young people organised an exhibition of antique objects on the occasion of the festivals of Artziniega. The success obtained served as a stimulus in subsequent years to systematically collecting pieces related to the skills known in the surroundings of Artziniega with the idea of preparing a permanent exhibition. In 1982 the group made a plea for popular cooperation in order to create the Ethnographic Museum. In September 1984 the doors were opened in premises previously given over to the stables of the Sanctuary. In 2004 the exhibition was transferred, for reasons of space, to a spacious historic building, renovated for this purpose.

Once the Museum was created it was necessary to establish a juridical base so as to establish relations with institutions and Public Administration and hence participate in aid and grants.
